Microsoft Targets Linux (and Macs) with Latest Chart-Based Propaganda
General Discussion, Windows 7 News No Comments »
Microsoft’s marketing team considers ridiculously skewed comparison charts to be a killer weapon in the war on competitors. It’s only natural, then, that the Redmond giant would provide retail store employees with a surreal juxtaposition between Windows 7 and Linux to “explain” for the Linux-curious. Continue reading »

How Long Windows 7 Upgrades Will Take
Windows 7 Downloads, Windows 7 Features No Comments »
Windows 7 LogoIf you’re a casual Windows Vista user with just a few documents tidily stashed away, upgrading to Windows 7 should take less than an hour. More likely, though, is a three-hour upgrade for heavy users with lots of stashed stuff.Chris Hernandez at the TechNet blogs ran three types of computers—low-end, mid-range, and high-end—through a Windows 7 upgrade with four different configurations each, reflecting the file and application loads of a “clean user” all the way through “super user.” A clean user profile on high-end hardware was able to upgrade in about 35 minutes, while a super user on mid-range gear would need about 20 hours to upgrade. Major features of each Windows 7 version (SKU) revealed!
Windows 7 Tips & Tweaks, Windows 7 Features 1 Comment »
We managed to get our hands on specific details on what features each SKU will have for Windows 7. Driver support from third-party vendors is critical to the success of Windows 7 as we have learned from the Vista catastrophe. As Dell pushes their drivers for release, hopefully other parties will be making their hardware and utilities officially compatible with Windows 7. I’m talking to you, Punkbuster.

Windows 7 Features 1 Comment »
There are a whole bunch of reasons why Windows 7 should appeal to businesses, but one threat–the still-sluggish economy–could overshadow all of those reasons to move to the new operating system.
“I think they have a really good product at a really bad time,” Directions on Microsoft analyst Michael Cherry said in a telephone interview this week.

Windows 7 Tips & Tweaks No Comments »
Windows 7 VHDSo, the question arises: how do I add a VHD of Windows 7 to the Vista bootloader? Put simply, Vista’s bootloader, not Vista, does not support booting from a VHD. Nonetheless, the bootloader can be replaced with Windows 7’s bootloader, and then we can boot from either a hard install of Vista or a VHD of Windows 7. Continue reading »
